House-proud consumers want to have all the latest gadgets for their properties and kitchen items can be among the most sought-after. After all, it’s often said that the kitchen is the heart of the home.
These days, there are plenty of products for people to choose from, including handy items like the OXO Good Grips Food Mill.
It seems as though spending on such goods, along with other home improvement items, is high among consumers in the UK. According to figures released by Sainsbury’s Bank, a total of £5.6 billion of personal loans were taken out last year alone for the purposes of enhancing houses and flats.
Meanwhile, 19 per cent more individuals took out personal loans for home improvements over the 12-month period than in 2011.
The average sum borrowed for this purpose was £9,024, which was higher than the £8,792 recorded the previous year. All this money could certainly purchase plenty of kitchen gadgets, including items like the OXO Good Grips Salad Spinner.
Commenting on the findings, the head of loans at Sainsbury’s Bank said: “Our research shows that, year-on-year, more people are looking to invest in their property and carry out home improvements. As well as the obvious improvements to the standard of living, home improvements can add real value to a property. We’d encourage those planning work to shop around to ensure they see the best possible return on their investment.”
As long as people take care of the items they buy for their kitchens and elsewhere around their homes, they should last for a long time, helping to ensure they represent good value for money.
